  • Basic
    • Run and jump your way across the level.
    • Defeat as many enemies as you can.
    • Collect all 3 stars.
  • Crossing chasms
    • You can jump over chasms and spikes to avoid them over short distances.
    • You might need to glide for wider chasms and spike traps.
    • To ascend platforms and cross really wide gaps, you might need to use your grappling hook.
      • To work, the grappling hook must latch on to something of the appropriate height, usually an elevated platform.
      • When you’re riding the hook, you ascend upwards as well.
      • Use the grappling hooks to get higher up than you could just by jumping.
      • In truly wide gaps, you must often use both the grappling hook and the gap
  • Dealing with hazards
    • Spikes and chasms
      • Falling into a chasm or hitting a spike kills you instantly.
      • Dying this way means you must restart the entire level.
    • Enemies
      • Enemies attack you as soon as you come into range.
      • Unlike pits and spikes, you will survive getting hit by them as long as you have heart points.
        • You only have 3 heart points. Make them count.
      • Dodge their attacks by jumping.
      • Use your boomerang to attack them.
        • Enemies must be in range for the boomerang to work.
        • Your range is shorter than your enemies.

    • The character inspired by Joker has a gun, though there is no blood in this game.
