• Starting the Game
  • On the welcome screen press the enter key to select Play to start the game.
    • If it is your first play you will start the first level.
    • If you have played before you will be brought to the level select screen.
    • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress including beat levels, best level move count, and if you grabbed the rose on each stage.
  • Enter the Select menu to adjust game settings.
    • General: select your avatar, your partner’s avatar, show game UI, option to skip tutorials

• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Move by pressing the arrow keys on your keyboard.
      • Press the left arrow key to move left a square.

    • When standing atop a switch press the spacebar to activate it.

  • Basics
    • This is a turn-based strategy game where you have to create a path that protects you and your family from flamethrowers which shoot flames every so many turns.
    • Operate a series of switches to protect you and your loved ones from the flames while making it to your partner.
    • Make it safely to your partner in a limited number of steps and collect the rose to complete each stage to 100%.
  • Features
    • Flamethrowers – these shoot out flames which touch every connected block that is not blocked off by a gate.
      • The upper left corner shows the countdown for flamethrowers. When it reaches zero all flamethrowers shoot out fire in all directions, filling the container they are in.
      • You can walk through flamethrowers provided they are not in the activate firing state.
      • You lose if the fire gets to you, your partner, your dog, or your mother in law.
    • Switches – these open or close gates of the same color.
      • You can repeatedly operate a switch to open & close gates.
      • On some stages there are many gates with the same color where a switch will open some gates while closing others at the same time.
      • Gates remain as positioned unless you (or another character) step on a doormat switch, or you operate another switch or hourglass.
    • Gates – these block the flow of fire from flamethrowers.
      • You can operate gates with switches, hourglass, or doormats.
      • You must make sure you, your dog, and your mother in law do not through a square with a gate while it closes.
    • Movers – escalators which move you in the direction they point to the square just past their final square on the escalator.
      • If you close a gate at the end of a mover you have the option to hop off the escalator in either remaining direction.
    • Portals – you can warp from one portal to another.
      • You always warp from a portal of one color to another portal of the same color.
      • You warp from the portals with an outer ring to the same-colored portal without the outer ring.
      • Each portal can be used repeatedly.
    • Bombs – these ignite if touched by a flamethrower’s flame.
      • Bombs destroy anything adjacent to them in any of the 4 cardinal directions.
    • Rocks – rocks act similar to gates, though they do not open.
      • The only thing that can destroy a rock is an adjacent bomb going off.
    • Ice – ice cubes blocks the flow of flames from flamethrowers similarly to how gates do.
      • You can not through ice blocks.
      • The ice melts a bit each time flames touch it.
      • The ice is reduced to a pool of water after fire touches it three times.
      • When the ice is reduced to water you can through the square, but so can fire.
    • Hourglass – these operate like gate switches, though they only temporarily switch a gate’s status.
      • After around 4 steps the status of the gate switches back to what it was before you hit an hourglass.
      • The hourglass only cycles each gate open or closed once, with the gate returning to the original state a few moves later.
      • You can repeatedly operate hourglasses to adjust the status of same-colored gates.
    • Trapdoors – these allow you (or any other party member) to across them once, and then upon any subsequent attempt to cross the level is failed.
      • Since you can only through each trap door once you must take special care to navigate the level in the correct order, as some cells won’t be reachable after you leave the area once.
    • Doormats – these operate like ordinary switches, however they only remain active while you or another party member are standing on them.
      • You must precisely time your steps so that you (or another party member) are on the doormat when the flamethrower fires.
    • Dog – the dog chases you when he spots you via a straight horizontal or vertical look on two consecutive turns.
      • When the dog chases you it will keep chasing until either it catches you, or it reaches the last known square where it saw you.
      • If the dog sees you again heading in another direction it will once again try to track you.
      • If the dog catches you you lose.
      • If the dog gets caught in a closing gate, gets hit by flames from a flamethrower, or falls through a trap door you lose.
    • Mother in law – she moves in a pattern uniquely her own, where she moves a square every turn you take.
      • If she catches you she’ll talk your ear off and you lose.
      • If she gets caught in a closing gate, gets hit by flames from a flamethrower, or falls through a trap door you lose.
    • Rotating movers – these are individual square movers which move you in the direction the arrow points when you walk onto them.
      • Each time you step on a rotating mover its direction that it moves you rotates 90 degrees.
      • Some rotating movers turn clockwise while others turn counterclockwise. You can tell which direction a rotating mover turns by the direction of the lights illuminated along its perimeter.
  • Seasons & Levels
    • This game has 5 seasons with each season having 7 levels.
      • Within a season levels are unlocked sequentially.
      • Seasons are unlocked sequentially by completing all levels in prior seasons.
      • To unlock the fifth and final season you must collect the flower from each stage & you must beat a level within par.
    • Winning vs losing
      • You win by safely getting to your partner with nobody getting hurt.
      • You lose if any party member gets hit by fire, gets caught in a closing gate, falls through a trap door, or is exploded by a bomb going off.
      • You also lose if either the dog or your mother in law make it onto the same square you are standing on.
      • This game offers unlimited continues, starting you out at the beginning of the failed level.
    • Par
      • Each stage lists a par number where the goal is to beat a level within the par count.
      • Beating stages in more moves than par still allows you to unlock the next stage (through the first 4 seasons), though you need to beat all 28 levels within par to unlock season 5.
    • Roses
      • Each stage has a flower in it you can collect.
      • You can collect the flower in the same play where you reach par, or you can collect it in a separate play through where it takes you more steps.
      • The flower collection only counts if you survive to save your partner & complete the level.
      • You do not have to collect the flowers to unlock the next stage for the first 28 stages. In order to unlock the fifth season with the last 7 stages you must collect all 28 flowers in the first 4 seasons.
  • Tips
    • Step count in sync with flamethrower
      • In this game you have to make moves in specific order where you have to step on some switches at a precise time.
      • You can waste pairs of moves by moving an extra step out of the way and back.
      • If you have an odd number of moves remaining you can use individual moves by doing any of the following:
        • walk onto a mover that pushes you back onto the square you were just on
        • pre-align a rotating mover so that you can move onto it twice in a row
        • operate another switch that you do not need to flip in order to burn a turn
    • Misdirecting others
      • Sometimes you have to move closer to your dog or mother in law to have their step count aligned to where nobody gets stuck in a gate or hit by a flamethrower.
      • Sometimes you instead need to make a circuitous route to prevent the dog or mother in law from harming themselves.
    • Roses vs par
      • If you score worse than par or do not grab the rose you will still unlock the next stage.
        • You can play the first 28 stages without needing to fully complete prior stages.
        • You have to complete the first 28 stages to 100% in order to unlock season 5.
      • You can get the flower in a different playthrough of a level than the play that matched or beat par if you are unable to do both in a single play.
